resistivity meters

Measure specific resistances quickly and accurately

Nittoseiko Analytech resistivity meters offer you innovative technologies for precise measurement of specific resistance and easy calculation of the resistivity correction factor. With the Hiresta-UX, Loresta-GX and Loresta-AX models, both surface resistivity and volume resistivity can be accurately measured. In addition, the PD-600 powder measuring system enables the determination of the physical properties of powdery substances by measuring the specific resistance.

For over 40 years, Nittoseiko Analytech measuring devices have been characterized by their outstanding quality, user-friendly handling and precise measurement results. They are a reliable choice for users who demand the highest levels of accuracy and reliability.

Information on electrical quantities and measurement methods

Every material has a unique specific resistance
Material resistance

Specific electrical quantities are of great importance in industry and technology. They serve the Characterization of different materials and their division into certain categories, such as Insulators, semiconductors or conductors. These sizes are independent of the shape and dimensions of the object in question and therefore describe a clear quality feature.

With the devices Hiresta UX, Loresta-GX II and Lorsta-FX an accurate measurement of the specific surface resistance and volume resistance is possible. Hiresta series serves the high-resistance range (103-1014Ω), the Loresta series the low-resistance (10-4-107Ω). These systems are supplemented by the Powder Resistivity System PD-600 for measuring the resistivity of powder.

Volume resistance

The Volume resistance (Ω・cm) is the resistance per unit volume and goes by various names depending on the scientific area of application. For example, the specific volume resistance in materials science, the specific resistance in electrical engineering, the resistance in physics, etc. This physical quantity is specific for a substance (listed in scientific tables) and serves as absolute measure of the resistivity of many materials. More about volume resistance in our FAQ >>

Surface resistance

The Surface resistance whereas (Ω/□,Ω/sq.) is the resistance per unit area, also referred to as plate resistance and finds Application in the area of coating, insulation, etc.

4-point and ring electrode measurement methods

These can be determined using two different measuring methods: The 4-point measurement method and the Ring electrode measurement method.

4 point measuring head measuring surface resistance
Ring electrode measuring head

Both methods are common methods for object characterization. The 4 point measurement method was first described in 1954 by LB Valdes for measuring semiconductors. In 1957 his notes were expanded by FM Smits with regard to the correction factors for determining the specific quantities. This was followed by further additions to various special cases (e.g. semicircular patterns).

In these works, highly idealized objects were basically described and measured. Mostly rectangular or circular patterns. The measuring position was preferably in the middle of the sample or in places that allow the electrical quantity to be easily corrected.

Through the 4-pole measuring head or the ring electrode measuring head of the measuring devices Line and plug connection resistances as well as contact resistances eliminated. In contrast to the widespread 2-pole measurement, significantly more precise resistance measurements are achieved. More information in our FAQ >>

Correction factor

For these idealized objects a general correction factor developed with which the specific variables can be determined from the electrical resistance. This correction is necessary because the electric field changes depending on the geometry of the sample or measuring position.

The Resistivity measuring devices from Nittoseiko Analytech basically work on Basis of the two measurement methods, but with essential more complex correction factors, which allows correction of specific sizes on samples of different dimensions, with freely selectable measuring positions. This allows versatile use in different areas of industry.
